Applying to Peck

How to Apply

The Peck School welcomes enthusiastic candidates from a variety of backgrounds and heritages, family types, and neighborhoods—children who are excited to learn, who are enthusiastic about friendships, and who come with their own unique voices to enrich our vibrant community.  Our step-by-step admissions process is designed to provide ample opportunity for your family to get to know our school—and for us to get to know you and your child.

Please note that we are conducting our admissions process virtually while the state of NJ remains under stay-at-home orders.  We know that this is a challenging time for parents, and we are making every effort to ensure that you feel supported through the application process, can (virtually) explore Peck further and speak with administrators and faculty as needed, and have any questions answered in a timely manner.

The steps below outline our current virtual admissions process, which will be in place until the stay-at-home mandate is lifted and we have determined that visitors can safely gather on campus. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.

*Please note that inquiries for entrance to all grades are welcomed throughout the year, however, optimal opportunity for enrollment exists when applying prior to January 15 for an upcoming school year.

List of 5 items.

  • Step 1: Schedule a Virtual Parent Meeting

A virtual meeting is the perfect way to explore the possibility of a Peck education for your child in a one-on-one, personalized meeting via Zoom or Skype.

Typically 30 minutes long, these personalized visits with a member of our Admissions Team provide time for parents to ask questions and share specific information about their child, as well as allow our Admissions Team to get to know your family better.

In addition, we can direct you to a number of online resources and faculty to speak with should you have additional, in-depth questions about what learning at Peck typically looks like.

  • Step 2: Fill out our Online Application

Peck’s secure online application acts as an easy and efficient guide for families to stay on track throughout the admissions process. Applications submitted prior to January 15 will receive early March notification. Applications submitted thereafter will be on a rolling basis as space allows.

There is a non-refundable application fee of $75. For early birds interested in applying prior to November 1, the application fee will be waived!  Please contact the Admissions Office for the fee waiver code. For families applying for financial assistance, we are also happy to waive this fee. Please contact the Admissions Office for instructions.

The online application creates a password-protected candidate file for your child, which you can access anytime. You will be able to upload information, get notifications when we process your documents, and communicate with our office online along the way.

The online application is simply for your convenience. We place a high value on personal interaction and invite you to contact us by phone (973-539-8660, ext.108) or email at any point throughout the process.
  • Step 3: Request for School Records/Teacher Recommendations

Kindergarten Applications (1 Teacher Recommendation Form):  Please send the Teacher Reference Request - Kindergarten form to your child’s current teacher.  The teacher should complete the form, and email it as a PDF to Admissions Assistant Wanda Fiorini.

Grades 1-4 Applications (1 Teacher Recommendation and School Transcript Request):  Please send the Teacher Reference Request - Grades 1-4 form to your child’s current teacher. The teacher should complete the form, and email it as a PDF to Admissions Assistant Wanda Fiorini.

The School Transcript Request form authorizes your child’s current school to send a copy of his/her official transcript directly to Peck. Complete the form and give it to your child’s current school following their first marking period.

Grades 5-8 Applications (3 Teacher Recommendations and School Transcript Request): Please send the Teacher Reference Request - Grades 5-8, the English Teacher Reference Request, and Math Teacher Reference Request to your child’s current teachers. They should each complete the appropriate form and and email it as a PDF to Admissions Assistant Wanda Fiorini.

The School Transcript Request form authorizes your child’s current school to send a copy of his/her official transcript directly to Peck. Complete the form and give it to your child’s current school following their first marking period.
  • Step 4: Student Assessment

Our goal in evaluating each applicant is to ensure a happy and successful placement within our academic program.  With this goal in mind, we administer assessments to applicants for Grades K through 8 that looks both at a child’s present level of achievement and at his or her aptitude for future learning.

Kindergarten Applicants:  You will be contacted by the Admissions Office to schedule an individualized, online screening for your child with our expert and caring Kindergarten Teachers.

Grades 1-2 Applicants:  You will be contacted by our Admissions Office to schedule an individualized, online screening for your child.

Grades 3-8 Applicants:  Standardized testing is a required part of the admissions process.  Applicants may complete one of the following two exams, and Peck does not prefer one exam over the other:
    1. Educational Record Bureau's (ERB) CTP 4 - Many private schools administer this exam annually to current students.  Please check with your child's school to see if your child has taken this exam during the current school year. If your child has not yet taken the ERB this year, we will contact you about next steps for your child.

    2. Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) - Please note that ISEE currently does not offer an online entrance exam.  While they are working to implement an appropriate process, we will, in the meantime, contact you about next steps for your child, should the ISEE be necessary.
  • Step 5: Admissions Decisions and Enrollment

An Admissions committee (comprised of Admissions personnel, head teachers, and other administrators) will be working virtually to process applications while the state of NJ is under stay-at-home orders.

Regardless of affiliation or priority, all applicants must meet the admissions standards of the school.  All applicants will receive an admissions decision notification upon completion of the process.

Please note that inquiries for entrance to all grades are welcomed throughout the year.

However, optimal opportunity for enrollment exists when applying prior to January 15 of an upcoming school year.
