March 20 was the first day of spring, the Vernal Equinox, and the Persian New Year!
Persian New Year is a 3000-year-old tradition that celebrates spring, rebirth, happiness, health, and more. Part of this celebration is jumping over a fire to give your sadness and tiredness to the flame and receive its energy in return while saying, "Sorkhi-ye to az man, zardi-ye man az to!" or "Let your redness be mine, and my paleness be yours!" Kindergarteners learned about this celebration and participated in some of the wonderful traditions, like jumping over a (fake) fire of their own, decorating eggs, and setting up Sofreh Haft Seen with items representing the seven S's, or symbols of what we wish for ourselves, our family, and our friends in the new year!
