Spend Your Summer with Peck!

The Peck School is excited to offer a variety of Summer Program classes with a range of academic enrichment and recreational activities designed for children in PreK through middle school. These in-person classes are sure to provide your child with an engaging, exciting, and fun summer experience with Peck! 

Registration for the Peck Summer Program is open! If you need to change your child's registration or have questions, please contact Christina Dietz at cdietz@peckschool.org.

  • Registration deadline is May 15
  • Classes will run between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Before Care is free and will run between 8:30 and 9 a.m. 
  • After Care is $75 a week and will run between 3 and 5 p.m.
  • Lunch will be $50 for a week for campers in grades 1-8.
  • There will be a free t-shirt with enrollment! (Sizes: YS-5XL)

Covid Safety Protocols

All programs will follow Peck's Covid guidelines for health and safety, as recommended by the NJ Department of Health.  These may include mandatory mask-wearing, social distancing, student cohorts, and other measures.

Camp Descriptions

Summer Program 2022

A slate of fantastic, weeklong classes led by our Peck teachers awaits you in June and July! From arts and academic enrichment to fun summer activities, your child is sure to find something that inspires and engages their minds during the dog days of summer. We welcome students who are entering first through eighth grade in the fall of 2022, regardless of the school they will be attending.
 
Please note that some classes may require additional expenses (such as for supplies) to be incurred by the family. If this is the case, you will be contacted after enrollment.

  • Times: 9 - 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 - 3 p.m.
  • Week 1 (JumpStart/Arts Academy Week): $450 per class

  • Week 1: June 15-17

    CLASS TIME: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    • Rising Gr. 1-5: JumpStart
      Jumpstart your summer program experience with a new old-fashioned camp experience! Reminiscent of those golden summer camp days, our JumpStart week promises to be an enriching and entertaining way to kick off the summer! (Full Day Only) Various Instructors
       
    • Rising Gr. 5-8: Arts Academy with Scott Beil
      Be a part of Peck's visual arts academy! With Mr. Beil as your guide, you will have an opportunity to enhance your skills in drawing, painting, and sculpting. Throughout the week we will work on numerous projects that may include: pencil sketching, charcoal drawing, acrylic painting, sculpture, and a passion project. During this fun-filled experience of art and creativity, you will build an exciting portfolio of your own original artworks. (Full Day Only)
  • Week 2: June 20-24

    CLASS TIME: 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
    • Rising Gr. 1-5: Sports Experience Camp with Laura Caruso, Adam Spadafora, and Molly Donnelly
      Sharpen your skills and build new friendships with Coach Caruso, Coach Spad, and Coach Donnelly. Problem solve & challenge yourself through fun games and activities. Students will engage in activities geared towards skill reinforcement, sportsmanship development, teamwork building, problem-solving, communication improvement, and leadership enhancement.

    • Rising Gr. 1-3: Digital Design and Exploration with Jen Garvey (max: 12)
      Join Mrs. Garvey for some iPad fun. Students will create digital art and photography, play challenging brain teaser games, and explore coding apps.

    • Rising Gr. 1-3: Stories and More with Tyler Moseley (max: 20)
      Have you ever wished you could visit with the characters in your favorite book? Maybe you've wanted to nibble that sweet treat in If you Give a Mouse a Cookie, or you've wanted to borrow Harold's Purple Crayon, or you hoped that rainbow fish would give you a rainbow scale. During this class, Ms. Moseley will lead students in crafts, recipes, and games that come straight out of their favorite books! Get ready to read and transport yourself into your favorite story.

    • Rising Gr. 3-6: Introduction to Steel Drums with Mike Ramsey (max: 12)
      Mr. Ramsey, a Brooklyn-based drummer and percussionist will be teaching this introduction to Steel Drums. Steel Drums (also known as steel pans) are musical instruments originating in Trinidad and Tobago. Mr. Ramsey, a BAM teaching artist and founding member of AZAGUNO (a multi-ethnic African culture group) has also performed with The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Seoul Philharmonic, and The National Dance Company of Ghana. He frequently substitutes for broadway shows including Once on This Island, Cirque du Soleil’s PARAMOUR, and The Lion King.

    • Rising Gr. 5-8: Laser Cutter Creations with Scott Beil (max: 10)
      Experience the awesome possibilities of combining art, imagination, and lasers. Mr. Beil will be your guide as you bring your art to life in exciting new ways using our Epilog Laser Cutter. Transform a sketch into a 3D sculpture, make a piece of 3D wall art for your room, or even turn an idea into a piece of jewelry, keychain, or a metallic trading card. Let your creativity soar as you explore these and other possibilities during this exciting week of art and technology.

    • Rising Gr. 6-7: Robotics with Bruce Schwartz (max: 12)
      Mr. Schwartz is offering this camp for prospective robotics team members who are interested in learning and understanding the competition requirements and commitments to the team. Students will design and build robots and program them to complete several set missions.

    • Rising Gr. 8: SSAT Prep with Jason Guss
      This class is designed to review the concepts and exercises that are covered on the SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test). It will be divided between the math and verbal sections. Instruction time will include formal lessons on test concepts, test-taking strategies, and practice tests. This class is suited for students who have not yet taken the test and for students needing a review.

    CLASS TIME: 12:30 to 3 p.m.
    • Rising Gr. 1-5: Basketball Camp with Laura Caruso, Adam Spadafora, and Molly Donnelly
      This afternoon sports experience class is all about BASKETBALL. Coach Caruso, Coach Spad, and Coach Donnelly will sharpen your skills and help you build new friendships as you dive into this sport. Students will engage in activities geared towards skill reinforcement, sportsmanship development, teamwork building, problem-solving, communication improvement, and leadership enhancement.

    • Rising Gr. 1-4: Drum Circle with Mike Ramsey (max: 12)
      Mr. Ramsey, a Brooklyn-based drummer and percussionist will be hosting a drum circle class. Students will participate in collaborative rhythm making while experiencing a variety of percussion instruments.     • Rising Gr. 3-5: Movie Madness with Gabriella Lopez
      Did you know that Ms. Lopez once worked at the most magical place on earth?! This Mouseketeer turned third-grade teacher extraordinaire will be hosting a summer camp all about movies. With a different theme for each day (Disney, Pixar, Superheroes, and more!), campers will get into character and participate in crafts, games, and activities.

    • Rising Gr. 4-6: Peck Detectives with Tyler Moseley (max: 20)
      Detective Moseley (aka Peck French teacher Ms. Moseley) is assembling a world-class team of thinkers and mystery solvers. Gather evidence, follow a trail, decipher clues, and decode messages. Do you have what it takes to crack the case?

    • Rising Gr. 4-8: Digital Painting and Photo Editing with Scott Beil (max: 12)
      Spend the week on the cutting edge of digital painting, photography, and digital photo editing. Learn how to create a digital painting, enhance your photographs, transform objects, stitch unrelated images together and create eye-popping special effects. Mr. Beil will guide you through a series of projects that will excite your imagination, boost your art skills, and enhance your experience in digital painting and digital photography. Have fun diving deep into the digital arts as you take your skills to the next level. Instructor: Scott Beil

    • Rising Gr. 5-8: Summer Band with Matt Sakasitz (Available to All Students in the Instrumental Program)
      Join Mr. Sakasitz and start your summer off with a week of band camp! Learn to play some new, fun tunes while getting better at your instrument. Open to all students enrolled in the instrumental program and any fourth-graders who took either instrumental PEP.
  • Week 3: June 27-July 1

    CLASS TIME: 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

    • Rising Gr. 1-3: Mad Science with Tyler Moseley (max: 18)
      Bubble, hiss, ooze, and explode into your summer as you conduct exciting experiments with Mad Ms. Moseley. Explore the wild side of science with a series of fun labs and activities.

    • Rising Gr. 2-5: Claymation with Scott Beil (max: 10)
      Enjoy a fun-filled week exploring the art of stop-motion clay animation (Claymation), as you join Mr. Beil to create your very own short film. In this class, you will learn how to plan a storyboard, sculpt characters, craft backgrounds, film with cameras, and use computer software to edit and add sound effects to your movie. After a fun week of creating you will see your imagination come to life on the big screen at our fourth annual Peck Summer Camp Film Festival which takes place on the last day of camp.

    • Rising Gr. 3-6: Chess (max: 20)
      Join the International Chess School of Montville at Peck for a fun-filled week of Chess. Discuss strategy, learn new moves, and practice your game—checkmate!  Instructor: TBD

    • Rising Gr. 5-8: Move Your Body/Move Your Mind with Jill Carille and Virginia Savage(max: 20)
      Join Ms. Carille and Ms. Savage for a medley of movement and writing! Each day, we will begin with physical activity (yoga and mindful stretching, nature walks, relays, dancing, etc.) before experimenting with collaborative projects like playwriting, dramatic performances, music videos, and even short films. Rising eighth-graders will be given time to brainstorm and start to work on their secondary essay with one-on-one help. Come explore how movement fuels creativity!

    • Rising Gr. 5-8: Shark Tank with Lee Collik
      Mr. Collik will guide campers as they learn high-level concepts in business operations, sales, and marketing. Students will have an opportunity to "create their own businesses" and pitch them to Peck Sharks. Additionally, campers will have the ability to create various marketing pitches for their business to try to create interest amongst the Sharks. This camp is meant for all US students from rising fifth-graders to rising eighth-graders.

    CLASS TIME: 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
    • Rising Gr. 1-5: Field Games with Laura Caruso, Adam Spadafora, and Molly Donnelly
      Kick Ball, punch ball, Wiffle ball, and more! During this field game-themed sports camp with Coach Caruso, Coach Spad and Coach Donnelly students will engage in activities geared towards skill reinforcement, sportsmanship development, teamwork building, problem-solving, communication improvement, and leadership enhancement.

    • Rising Gr. 1-3: Builders Club with Christina Dietz (max: 10)
      Join Ms. Dietz in this mixed media, 3-dimensional, creative class. Campers will get to experience sculpture of all types including wood, clay, cardboard, and paper. We will be hammering, sanding, painting, and BUILDING our way through this week!

    • Rising Gr. 3-6: X-TREME Mini Golf with Jason Guss (max: 18)
      Mr. Guss will lead campers in this x-tremely x-citing, and x-tra fun class. Campers will practice their golf game around campus, as well as build their own mini-golf course and putt their way through each hole. FORE!

    • Rising Gr. 4-8: Canvas Painting with Scott Beil (max: 10)
      If you love to paint and want to improve your skills, spend the week working on your own custom canvas art. You will have an opportunity to experience representational and abstract painting styles during the week. With Mr. Beil as your guide, you will explore techniques in color blending, brushwork, layering, masking, detail, and splatter art. At the end of the week, you will have multiple canvases ready to bring home and display in your home.

    • Rising Gr. 4-6: Animation Basics with Andy Cohen (max: 12)
      Have fun learning character and background drawing, timing, layering, and many other cell animation techniques. No experience or drawing ability is required—only an open mind and a willingness to try something new.

Kindergarten Express

We invite incoming Peck kindergarten students to join us June 20-24 for our popular "K" Express with teachers Maribel Mohr and Kristin Young. This full-day, week-long camp is an excellent introduction to Peck's campus and facilities, as well as an opportunity for the Peck Class of 2031 to begin forming relationships with each other and their future teachers. Kindergarten Express will run full-day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will operate according to Peck's Covid safety protocols.

Pre-K Adventures (Ages 3-5)

NOTE: This half-day, morning-only camp is for children ages 3.5 to 5 who are not yet entering kindergarten in September.  It will be held in person on Peck's campus, and follow with Peck's Covid safety protocols.

Calling all playful preschoolers! Do you like to create, build, imagine, explore, and make new friends? Then this is the camp for you! Whether you’re digging in the garden, creating a masterpiece, or designing and building your own invention, you’re sure to enjoy the Peck Pre-K Summer Adventures in our cheerful kindergarten building.  Instructors: Kindergarten Teachers Maribel Mohr and Kristin Young
