Carr Learns to Play Guitar
During the summer of 2017, English Teacher Chelsey Carr assigned herself a musical challenge: to learn to play guitar.
Carr grew up with fond memories of fireside guitar sessions with family, evoking within her a nostalgic desire to bring the same melodious, iconic warmth to her own children's lives. Though she envisioned picking up the instrument and immediately becoming a "confident, natural guitarist" (as she remembers her family members to be), she soon discovered that the reality of a 'stretchy' challenge is quite different!
By summer's end, she was struck by how deeply her exploration was influenced by her process, rather than the final product, just as Peck students do when taking risks and growing through challenges.
Carr continues to enjoy every moment of the learning experience with her guitar—and she says that 'while she may not be ready for a solo act anytime soon, she is grateful for the chance to show her kids how much fun the learning process can be!'
