The Peck School Recognizes Former Food Pantry Director With Community Service Award

The Peck School was honored to present Rosemary Gilmartin, the former Executive Director of the Morris County Interfaith Food Pantry, with its annual Award for Community Service in May 2019.
At The Peck School’s annual Robin Ross Assembly, which celebrates both the school’s motto— Consideration of Others—and the ‘graduation’ of the fourth grade to the fifth, Head of School Andrew C. Delinsky also presented the school’s annual Award for Community Service to Gilmartin for her 20-year commitment to the local food pantry.

The award was established in 2007 by the Board of Trustees, which is given annually to a member of the Morristown community who merits distinction as a result of his or her personal dedication, community commitment, and service to others.

“Mrs. Gilmartin and the Interfaith Food Pantry are living examples of the power, of the importance, and of the necessity of serving those less fortunate,” said Delinsky. “Their work is nothing short of heroic.”

Under Gilmartin’s leadership, the food pantry added many new programs, including the Healthy Choices Program Mobile Pantry, the Kitchen to Table program, Free Farmers Markets, Client Choice Program, and emergency food assistance. It also added food distribution on weekends and evenings, while dramatically improving the quality of food, and emphasizing fresh produce, dairy, and meat.
 
Past recipients of Peck’s Award for Community Service are Morristown/Morris County residents: the late Marty Epstein of Marty’s Reliable Cycle, 2018; Charlie Lia of Wesley’s Toy Box, 2017; Shaun Ananko of Grow it Green, 2016; Jill Lasser and Stuart Lasser of Preschool Advantage, 2015; Emily Kubin of the Emily’s Hats for Hope initiative, 2014; Judy Abrams, a Morristown Medical Center volunteer and pet therapy organizer, 2013; Richard Eger, a former Board Member of Morris Arts, 2012;  Zachary Certner of SNAP: Special Needs Athletic Programs, 2011; Megan McDowell of Heartworks, 2010; Maria A. DeMos, an artist and community volunteer, 2009; Maggie Doyne of BlinkNow and co-founder of the Kopila Valley Children’s Home and School in Nepal, 2008; and Stephen B. Wiley, an educational philanthropist, 2007.
