Excellence in Teaching at Peck

Delivering a meaningful and dynamic program requires inspired, creative people who believe in the transformative power of K-to-8 education.  Our intentionally scaled, close-knit community is one where students feel known and valued; where they embrace kindness, explore ethical inquiry, develop dynamic empathy, and grow prodigiously as learners and leaders—all without growing up too soon. And they are guided by a community of educators who not only teach but also model a love of lifelong learning.

We seek and support diversity in our faculty and staff, as we believe that education is enlivened and enriched within an inclusive community of diverse backgrounds, that respects the dignity and humanity of each individual.

Committed to investing in its faculty and staff, Peck offers highly competitive salaries, generous benefits, and meaningful professional development. We encourage and facilitate collaboration and mentorship amongst colleagues. We intentionally cultivate a growth mindset at Peck, as we provide support and resources for educators as they hone their crafts, explore their interests, and strive for excellence.

  • Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Belonging

Peck is a community of people that represent different ethnicities, a vibrant range of cultural and racial backgrounds, and varying religious and socio-economic backgrounds. We actively seek out employees who will help further our efforts to ensure our school is a diverse, inclusive, and equitable teaching, learning, and working environment for all.

    Peck's Diversity and Inclusion Statement:
At The Peck School, our diversity and inclusion efforts are guided by our firm belief in Consideration of Others, which has long been a hallmark of our school and the guiding principle for students, faculty, staff, and families.

Through our efforts, we foster a community of inclusion that respects the dignity and humanity of each individual. We genuinely embrace and celebrate uniqueness and promote respect for all. We honor and value each person’s identity, inclusive of diverse races, ethnicities, genders, religions, socio-economic classes, abilities, sexual orientations and learning styles.

Peck’s K-8 program actively seeks developmentally appropriate opportunities to teach empathy and embrace diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency.  Through a focus on developing a global perspective, Peck students gain a deeper appreciation for other cultures and backgrounds. The school is fully committed to equity, inclusion, and justice for our community and for the greater good.
  • Working Environment

As a school that firmly believes in “knowledge, guided by values'' and “consideration of others,” Peck is a community that is warm, collaborative, and committed to honoring the dignity and humanity of each individual. Collegial, intellectually curious, and highly dedicated, Peck’s faculty and staff contribute their unique voices to a teaching and learning environment marked by dynamic inquiry and contagious excitement for learning.

Peck embraces the joy found in childhood and discovery, encouraging community members to bring their own inspiration and sense of adventure to daily life on campus.

Fully invested in supporting the individual growth of its faculty and staff, Peck offers robust professional development opportunities for employees at all stages in their careers.
  • Salary and Benefits

Committed to investing in its faculty and staff, Peck offers highly competitive salaries, generous benefits and meaningful professional professional development. Compensation is benchmarked against peer schools with faculty salaries structured in a banded system. The bands are informed by data from a national sample of schools—ensuring transparency, clear communication, and meaningful dialogue about career development and professional growth. Peck also offers opportunities to honor and promote teachers for excellence in teaching. You can find details here.
  • Teaching Expectations

Two of Peck’s greatest strengths are the bonds between teachers and students, and a meaningful partnership with parents. We believe that open communication with families and a commitment to know and value each child are the necessary ingredients for students to learn to take risks, unlock their full potential, and reach further than they ever thought they could.

In the two Lower School (Gr. K-4) homerooms per grade, the daily schedule includes rotating “specials” classes, such as sports, technology, Spanish, science and design, music, and art. Homerooms typically range between 12-15 students. Each homeroom is managed by the Lead Homeroom Teacher and an Associate Teacher.

The Upper School (Grades 5-8) follows a rotating schedule that includes blocks for sports, activities, and academic support. Teachers are expected to be available for daily academic support, department and grade-level meetings, and other duties as assigned.

Faculty members also support our students by attending events such as assemblies, athletic contests, dramatic productions, and alumni events.
  • Hours and Other Duties

As with all independent schools, employees play a number of roles throughout the school year and are expected to contribute to the overall experience of students and their families.

Everyone, including faculty, staff, and administrators, share in daily supervisory duties such as recess, lunch, and/or arrival and dismissal. Peck also encourages faculty and staff to offer an activity class for students (either during Activities periods during the day, or before/after school hours as needed), coach a sport, or offer an after-school Peck Enrichment Program class.

Faculty and staff are also encouraged to offer programming during Peck’s Summer Program (with an additional stipend), either in-person or virtual, during the summer months.

Hours: All full-time teachers are expected to be in their classrooms prepared to receive students by 7:50 a.m. and to remain on campus until 4 p.m Monday - Thursday (with the exception of Monday division meetings) and 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Generally speaking, non-faculty employees are engaged between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  All employees are required to attend regularly-scheduled school meetings which may extend beyond “usual” hours of the day.  Faculty and staff are also expected to attend special functions throughout the school year, as directed by their supervisors, as well as participate in in-service and professional development days. Staff hours can vary as dictated by individual responsibilities.

Professional Development

In addition to a number of meaningful professional development opportunities, Peck offers a structured, yearlong 'Deep Dive' program for eligible employees that grants them time, resources, and support to deeply explore and research a professional interest.
