Sweet Creativity: First Graders Build Gingerbread Houses

In the heart of the festive season, first-grade classrooms came alive with the sweet aroma of gingerbread and the sound of excited chatter.

This is no ordinary day in school – it's gingerbread house-building day! This delightful activity not only brings joy to the young learners but also provides a hands-on, creative experience that enhances their fine motor skills, teamwork, and holiday spirit.

Equipped with frosting bags and an array of candies, first graders worked in groups as they embarked on their gingerbread house construction journey. Using their design-thinking routines (looking closely, finding opportunity, and exploring complexity), students pieced together walls and roofs, windows and decor, and added their own creative flair to the project. The first graders were excited by the opportunity to express themselves through their edible creations, and proudly displayed their creations to their peers!
