Peck's Eighth Grade Pennants

A number of leadership opportunities are available for eighth graders to practice their leadership skills “on the ground,” so to speak, by volunteering to serve the school and their peers through weekly structured activities. At a recent all-school assembly, eighth-grade students were called to the front of the multipurpose room to shake Head of School Andy Delinsky’s hand and receive their Peck pennant with pins that designate their leadership roles for various activities. Pins signify students’ leadership roles in the following places:

Activities Leader – Lead an activity for peers during activity block under the guidance of a faculty or staff member for further exploration of extracurricular activities.

Admissions Ambassadors – Welcome prospective parents and students to Peck, share personal experiences, and lead activities for prospective students during Admissions events.

Design & Build – Design and build features for Peck's outdoor classroom for a functional outdoor learning space in the wood shop with Mr. Mortensen.

Downy-Redhead Captains - Find creative ways to enhance friendly competition, foster team spirit, and demonstrate respectful competitiveness.

InDeCoRe Council – Spearhead efforts to encourage and spread ‘Consideration of Others’ throughout the student body and community.

Kindergarten Helpers – Assist kindergartners with arrival and morning activities, and “buddy” with them during Reach Across and other events during the year.

Linden Editor – Preserve lasting memories of the school year within the Linden, Peck’s yearbook, by choosing themes, designing layouts, taking photos, and writing.

Lower School Assistant – Support Lower School homeroom teachers and assistants by helping facilitate classroom activities and build connections with younger students while gaining experience in classroom management and lesson planning.

Lower School Chorus Assistant – Assist Lower School students during before-school chorus rehearsals by helping organize singers, encourage participation, and foster a positive and welcoming environment before the school day begins.

Lunch Table Leaders – Lead their lunch table of younger classmates to ensure all food is served and cleaned up in a timely manner.

Performing Arts Coordinators – Help organize and execute Peck productions including the Talent Show, the musical, and eighth-grade play.

Robotics Captains – Guide teammates through complex programming challenges and creative problem-solving while fostering teamwork and perseverance. Captains keep teammates motivated and focused, and embody Peck’s core values through positive leadership, respect, and school spirit.

Service Committee Leader – Work alongside Service Learning Coordinator Sue Longenecker to organize the lost and found, donate unclaimed clothing, and lend a hand in various first-grade classrooms.

Sports Captains – Act as a role model for teammates and set the tone with actions and attitude, encourage good sportsmanship, and demonstrate respect and care for all players.

Student Council Officers — Comprising a president and officers, the Student Council acts as a voice for the student body. They liaise with faculty, plan events and activities, and implement new initiatives to build community and school spirit.

Tech Team – Manage audio, lighting, and recording for all school assemblies as well as on stage performances such as the Winter Musical and the Talent Show.
