Peck Fourth Graders Create Charlotte’s Web Mobiles to Reflect School Values

Fourth graders at The Peck School recently combined literature, creativity, and character education in a hands-on project inspired by Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White.
After reading the beloved novel, students tracked examples of Peck’s InDeCoRe values—gratitude, courage, respect, care, resilience, and justice—highlighting the moments in the story when characters demonstrated these important qualities.

To deepen their learning, students then moved into Peck’s Idea and Design Lab, where they collaborated in groups to design and build hanging mobiles. Using materials like hangers, pom-poms, felt, and glue, each group crafted a scene from Charlotte’s Web that visually represented a value. From their mobiles, students hung notecards that detailed specific examples from the book, showing exactly how Charlotte, Wilbur, and their friends embodied Peck’s values.

“This project not only celebrates the timeless lessons of Charlotte’s Web but also gives students the opportunity to connect literature with creativity, teamwork, and the shared values that guide the school community,” said Fourth Grade Homeroom Teacher Lynn Tecza.
