Nees Receives Award for Teaching Excellence

At Peck’s Welcome Back Dinner this fall—held during the first week of school—First Grade Homeroom Teacher Christa Nees was honored with the Disciplina ad Vivendum Award for Teaching Excellence, the school’s highest faculty distinction. The award recognizes a teacher who embodies lifelong learning, embraces the school’s mission, and creates a dynamic, caring environment where students thrive.

Since joining Peck in 2002, Nees has been a steady, inspiring presence in the Lower School—known for her thoughtful instruction, tireless dedication, and boundless warmth.

“Excellent teachers are always learning,” Head of School Andy Delinsky says. “Christa is a model of that spirit—constantly refining her craft and pushing herself to deliver the very best for her students.”

Nees actively pursues professional growth, whether through workshops, webinars, or collaborative planning with colleagues. In her classroom, she pairs structure and organization with patience and joy, guiding her first graders to grow in confidence and skill at the very start of their Peck journeys.

Her impact extends far beyond her classroom walls. Nees has directed Peck’s Summer Program, led creative PEP courses, and organized the beloved Reach Across program that connects students across grades and divisions. She is also a trusted mentor to Associate Teachers—offering wisdom, encouragement, and, often, a slice of her famous chocolate-chip banana bread.

Colleagues describe her as selfless and dependable—the one who arrives early, stays late, and brings bagels on Wednesdays simply to brighten others’ days.

Christa Nees leads by example, uplifting her students, her peers, and the entire Peck community through her kindness, professionalism, and lifelong commitment to learning. The school proudly congratulates her as the 2025 recipient of the Disciplina ad Vivendum Award for Teaching Excellence.
