In celebration of the 15th anniversary globally recognized International Dot Day, The Peck School Kindergarteners listened to a reading of the short story The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.
The Dot is a story of a teacher who encourages a student to believe in herself and her abilities, starting with a simple dot that eventually grows into a journey of self-discovery and artistic freedom.
Peck Kindergarteners dressed in polka dots and got their creative juices flowing as they took to the picnic table outside to dive into a messy dot inspired project. With paper plates and round-tipped markers, our youngest students expressed their creativity and let their imaginations run as they came up with their own projects to commemorate the lessons they learned through the book.
“The Dot is an inspiring story that teaches children that there are going to be a lot of challenges in life, but in the end, perseverance and encouragement can take you to new heights,” says Kindergarten Homeroom Teacher Kristin Young. “Persistence can help you discover things about yourself that you never knew existed. Knowing that you gave your best effort will fill you with a sense of accomplishment that is yours to keep.”
Each student’s dot-inspired piece is as unique as them, showing off their own personalities and giving them an opportunity to create something to be proud of.
