Kindergarteners met with their first grade buddies for a festive game of Pumpkin bowling in Nikki’s Garden, next to the Lower School.
Each pair was challenged to knock down pins like traditional bowling but with the added twist of replacing bowling balls with pumpkins.
Eager first graders brought along handmade bookmarks to give their younger buddies, and, as seasoned professionals (having Pumpkin Bowled last year when they were in kindergarten) eagerly showed off their technique in this festive game.
“Activities like this give students the opportunity to make connections. Older students are able to take on leadership roles as they help out younger peers, and younger students can form relationships in the Peck community outside of their classrooms” says Kindergarten Teacher Maribel Mohr.
As the games continued, students found ways to keep the game interesting by raising the stakes and making “kid tunnels” for pumpkins to travel through before knocking down pins, changing pin positions, and furthering pin-to-pumpkin distances.
The joy of pumpkin bowling even caught the attention of nearby eighth-grade students who were outside for class. When they stopped by to check out all of the fun, their younger peers invited them to join in on a game– further demonstrating the strong sense of community that we have here at The Peck School.
