Peck’s first graders recently put their knowledge to the test in a fun and engaging Black History Month Jeopardy game, hosted by first-grade parent Katrina Boyd.
Before the game began, Boyd led an interactive lesson on influential Black figures in history, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Katherine Johnson, Jackie Robinson, and more. Students listened eagerly as they learned about the remarkable contributions these individuals made to society.
“This activity sparked a real excitement in our first graders about learning Black history. It was incredible to see their curiosity grow as they engaged with these important stories. Watching Katrina share her passion and deep knowledge was truly special—not only was she teaching facts, but she was also helping our students connect with the rich culture and profound impact of Black historical figures,” said First Grade Homeroom Teacher Cathy Lopez.
With their newfound knowledge, the first graders then split into teams for an exciting round of Jeopardy! They worked together to discuss their answers before submitting them to the host, showcasing both their teamwork and what they had learned. The activity was a fun and meaningful way to celebrate Black History Month while reinforcing key historical lessons in an engaging format.
