Farmer Sean from Grow it Green Morristown paid a special visit to our second-grade classrooms to share a special presentation with our students.
Peck has had a long-standing relationship with Grow it Green Morristown, a nonprofit that brings farm-based education to the greater Morristown community – allowing individuals to know where food comes from, learn how to care for our environment, and experience locally grown, fresh food. In fact, Peck even presented them with their Community Service Award in 2016 for their exceptional efforts in promoting environmental stewardship and local food awareness within our community.
In preparation for the second grade’s field trip to Grow it Green in May, Farmer Sean took to the classroom to show students and engage in a presentation about Grow It Green’s mission emphasizing sustainable agriculture practices and the importance of community involvement. After the presentation, the students escorted Farmer Sean to Peck’s community garden to show the work Peck is doing to create sustainability within our own community, and listened to his recommendations as to what vegetables may suit our garden best!
Through Farmer Sean's visit, our students gained valuable insights into the origins of their food, environmental conservation, and the significance of supporting local produce. We eagerly anticipate our upcoming field trip, where these lessons will come to life amid the vibrant setting of Grow it Green Morristown.
