New Student Council President Offers Opening Day Remarks
This week, Peck students came back from summer vacation to commence Peck's 126th year as a school. A Peck tradition during the first all-school assembly is to invite the new Student Council President to address the crowd. Eighth Grader Franklin Mau took to the podium and offered these remarks:
"Good morning and welcome back. My name is Franklin Mau, your Student Council President. I would like to welcome all new and returning students and faculty members. I hope you all had a restful and relaxing summer! I would also like to introduce the student council officers: Isabella, Hudson, Henry, and Julia. We have all been at Peck since Kindergarten, so if you have any questions you can reach out to us anytime!
Every year, you should always set a goal. Last year, I was sitting where you are today, wondering about my goal of the year. Maybe you are thinking about getting better grades, honoring the core values, learning or trying something new, or making a new friend. Or perhaps you may want to become the student council president.
To my Class of 2019, this is our last year together. Enjoy it. Remember it. Cherish it. And most importantly, HAVE FUN. This year will be full of challenges and surprises, but at the end, it will be filled with accomplishment.
Just remember, “If you set goals and go after them with all the determination you can muster, your gifts will take you places that will amaze you.” (Les Brown)
