Using Your Noodle for a Good Cause: Pasta for Preschool Fundraiser

On Wednesday, October 25th, the Peck Class of 2019 held a "Pasta for Preschool" fundraiser to support Preschool Advantage - a program near and dear to Peck’s heart. The dinner, from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Olney Dining Hall, was a perfect way to spend Kairos night as a family while supporting a great cause.
The evening was a major success and along with ticket proceeds, online donations, donations at the event, and collections taken in our morning car line, raised $13,487 for Preschool Advantage. That’s almost enough to support three children to attend preschool next fall. Preschool Advantage (originally known as Project Acorn), is a non-profit organization in Morristown dedicated to helping children from lower-income families access a quality preschool education.

In 2015, Preschool Advantage (PSA) founders Jill Lasser and Stuart Lasser were awarded Peck's Community Service Award. The Class of 2019, many of whom participated in the Preschool Advantage orientation evening held at Peck last spring, was thrilled to continue strengthening the connection between Peck and PSA. Our students well-exceeded the $10,000 fundraising goal they set for themselves this year.

Established in 1995, PSA's mission is to provide tuition for eligible children to attend preschool because the advantages of early education cannot be underestimated. According to PSA's website:

By the age of three, children from lower income families are already developmentally behind their more affluent peers. Research shows the most efficient and effective way to equalize that shocking gap is to give children a quality preschool education so they can enter kindergarten ready to learn and succeed. As adults, children who attend a quality preschool are better educated, interact better with others, are healthier, and have higher economic productivity than those who don't get that opportunity. There are thousands of families in New Jersey who cannot afford to provide their children with early education. Preschool Advantage is committed to addressing the need, one child at a time.

This school year, they are funding tuitions for 75 children to one of 19 carefully selected partner preschools in Morris and Somerset Counties.

In the past, Peck seventh graders have raised money to support their Class' seventh- and eighth-grade trips to Boston and Washington D.C. Now, thanks to an annual gift from Peck's Parents Association that helps fund the trips, the students are able to focus their fundraising efforts outside of Peck and within the greater community to help make a true difference.
