Author Dan Gutman Visits Peck Second Graders Virtually

On February 10, popular children's author Dan Gutman virtually visited second graders at The Peck School in Morristown, NJ. The students were thrilled to hear from the author of the Baseball Card Adventures and My Weird School series, who shared his inspiration for writing and the process of creating a book.
Captivated by Gutman's stories and his passion for writing, students listened intently to Gutman’s “nine steps” for how they can write a story on their own. They also took to heart his lessons of resilience—a Peck InDeCoRe value—as he shared stories about receiving rejection letters from publishers, but continued following his inspiration. Gutman encouraged them to read widely, write every day, and never give up on their dreams.

“Dan Gutman is one of the most prolific children’s authors, and our second graders often check out his books for pleasure reading at home,” said Peck Librarian Melissa Sorge. “Hearing him speak gives our students the chance to get to know someone whose work is all around the school, in their classrooms, and even in their own hometown libraries.”

The visit was a wonderful opportunity for second graders to connect with a renowned author and learn more about the writing process—and one that they will not soon forget!
