One of the most common questions I’m asked as an admissions director is, “Why does the independent school admissions process start so early?”

Many parents are surprised—and often overwhelmed—to learn that the process begins nearly a full year before they hope to enroll their child. As a mom of two myself, I completely understand. It’s hard enough to plan a week ahead, let alone an entire year.

But there are thoughtful reasons behind this early timeline, and it’s intentionally designed to support both schools and families.
