The Peck School welcomes bright young minds from a variety of backgrounds and heritages, family types, and neighborhoods—children who are excited to learn, who are enthusiastic about friendships, and who come with their own unique voices to enrich our vibrant community. Our step-by-step admissions process is designed to provide ample opportunity for your family to get to know our school—and for us to get to know you and your child.
As always, feel free to contact us if you have questions about any of the steps below or the online application process. Please note that inquiries for entrance to all grades are welcomed throughout the year, however optimal opportunity for enrollment exists when following the timelines below.
The parent visit is the first step in applying your child to The Peck School. Typically one hour long, these personalized visits with a member of our Admissions Team provide time for parents to ask questions and share specific information about their child, to observe classes and tour campus, as well as allow our Admissions Team to get to know your family better. We ask that children do not accompany their parents for this visit.
Peck’s secure online applicationacts as an easy and efficient guide for families to stay on track throughout the admissions process. Applications submitted prior to January 15 will receive early March notification. Applications submitted therafter will be on a rolling basis as space allows.
There is a non-refundable application fee of $75. For early birds interested in applying prior to November 1, the application fee will be waived! Please contact the Admissions Office for the fee waiver code. For families applying for financial assistance, we are also happy to waive this fee. Please contact the Admissions Office for instructions.
The online application creates a password-protected candidate file for your child, which you can access anytime. You will be able to upload information, get notifications when we process your documents, and communicate with our office online along the way.
The online application is simply for your convenience. We place a high value on personal interaction and want you to contact us by phone (973-539-8660, ext.108) or emailat any point throughout the process.

School Transcript Request for Grades 1-8: The School Transcript Request - Grades 1-8 form authorizes your child’s current school to send a copy of his/her official transcript directly to Peck. Complete the form and give it to your child’s current school following their first marking period.
A class visit rounds out our personal understanding of each child. Applicants attend class sessions at their same grade level so that they can learn and interact with their peers. This also gives our teachers the opportunity to provide reflections on your child’s experience at The Peck School. For Kindergarten Applicants: We schedule a one hour playgroup for your child in our Kindergarten building. The playgroup is comprised of other Kindergarten applicants and occurs during the winter months. The Admissions Office contacts you to arrange the visit.
For Grades 1-8 Applicants: We schedule a full day for your child at Peck, during which he/she will be paired with a “buddy” student to attend classes, recess, lunch, and sports. The Admissions Office contacts you to arrange the visit.
Student Visitor Health Form: To ensure that your child has a safe visit to Peck, we require a Student Visitor Health Form to be completed by parents. Please upload this form to your online applicant profile no less than five days prior to your visit.
Our goal in evaluating each applicant is to ensure a happy and successful placement within our academic program. With this goal in mind, we administer assessments to applicants for Grades K through 8 that looks both at a child’s present level of achievement and at his or her aptitude for future learning.
Kindergarten Applicants: You will be contacted by the Admissions Office to schedule an individualized screening for your child with our expert and caring Kindergarten Teachers.
Grades 1-2 Applicants: You will be contacted by our Admissions Office to schedule an individualized screening for your child. In most cases, this screening occurs on the day of the child's Student Visit to Peck.
Grades 3-8 Applicants: Standardized testing is a required part of the admissions process. Applicants may complete one of the following two tests, and Peck does not prefer one test over the other:
Educational Record Bureau's (ERB) CTP 4 - Many independents schools administer this test annually to current students. Please check with your child's school; and confirm with our office if the timing aligns with the admissoins process.
Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) - Applicants can register to take the ISEE at Peck on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. by visiting www.iseetest.org or calling 800-446-0320. In order to obtain The Peck School event code for registration, please contact our Admissions Office. You will need to select that your child's scores be shared with Peck (school code: 311703). Testing must be completed within the year of application (September 2018-February 2019). Note: Registration closes 5 days prior to testing (on Monday, January 28, 2019).
Following your child’s visit, testing, and receipt of all forms, your child’s file will be complete and ready for our Admissions Committee to process. The committee (comprised of Admissions personnel, head teachers, and other administrators) will first review the applications of siblings, faculty, and alumni children. Regardless of affiliation or priority, all applicants must meet the admissions standards of the school. All applicants will be notified by letter of their admissions status by the second week in March.
Please note that inquiries for entrance to all grades are welcomed throughout the year, however optimal opportunity for enrollment exists when following the timelines noted above.
