Director of Strategic Communications & Marketing

Associate Teacher Program

The Associate Teacher Program at Peck offers emerging teachers a transformative, year-long journey toward excellence in elementary education. In this full-time program, you will work closely with the experienced teachers in our Lower School (grades K-4), honing your teaching skills through mentorship, collaboration with top educators, and reflective practice. Gradually, you'll take on more classroom responsibilities, preparing you to lead your own classroom. By the end of the program, you'll have compiled a comprehensive portfolio of your work, with continued professional development support from The Peck School.

Peck is located near downtown Morristown—a bustling small city center featuring top restaurants, local coffee hubs, bars and craft distilleries, retail shopping, and the award-winning 1,302-seat Mayo Performing Arts Center.

Morristown offers easy access to NJ transit/New York City, and boasts state-of-the-art medical facilities, museums and historical landmarks (it was the winter headquarters for General George Washington during the Revolutionary War), and outdoor recreation.

When not teaching, faculty and staff often venture into town to visit the local library, run errands, or stroll through the Morristown Green!

Professional Development at Peck

One of Peck’s priorities for employees is to ensure that the growth mindset flourishes. We know that teachers who approach their own professional development with creativity and passion become role models for their students, who are still developing the agency needed for a lifetime of learning. And so, Peck offers myriad professional development opportunities to employees.

Workshops & Continuing Education

Funding is available, with supervisor approval, for continuing education and professional development including conferences, workshops, and webinars. After two years of employment, employees are also eligible to apply for tuition reimbursement for graduate coursework. Pecks reimburses approved courses of study at a rate of 80% of tuition for up to 9 credits per year.

Deep Dives

Peck's "Deep Dive" allows faculty the time, administrative support, funding, and resources to comprehensively explore a professional interest. This self-directed process encourages profound personal development and self-reflection. This one-year experience is open to full-time faculty and staff who have been at Peck for more than two years and is offered on a four-year rotation.

Enrichment Grants

Each year, Peck awards five grants to faculty and staff members for a personally enriching experience. Three $5,000 grants and two $10,000 grants allow employees to flex their growth mindset as lifelong learners while they explore a topic of sincere interest—one that doesn't need to relate to their responsibilities at Peck.

What does working at Peck look like?

Retirement

All full-time teachers are expected to be in their classrooms prepared to receive students by 7:50 a.m. and to remain on campus until 4 p.m. Monday - Thursday (with the exception of Monday division meetings) and 3:15 p.m. on Fridays. All employees are required to attend regularly-scheduled school meetings which may extend beyond typical hours. Faculty and staff are also expected to attend special functions throughout the school year, as directed by their supervisors, as well as participate in in-service and professional development days. Staff hours can vary as dictated by individual responsibilities.

Peck recognizes approximately nine federal and 20 school holidays per year. Administrative (non-teaching) staff also receive vacation days to be used in accordance with the policies outlined in the Employee Handbook. Fifteen days are allocated to administrative staff in their first year of employment.

Tuition Remission

Peck offers a generous tuition remission benefit for full-time employees. Faculty and staff members are eligible for a 25% discount on tuition in the first two years of service and are eligible for a 90% discount after two years of service.

Community Responsibilities

As with all independent schools, employees play a number of roles throughout the school year and are expected to contribute to the overall experience of students and their families. Everyone, including faculty, staff, and administrators, share in daily supervisory duties such as recess, lunch, and/or arrival and dismissal. Peck also encourages faculty and staff to offer an activity class for students (either during Activities periods during the day, or before/after school hours as needed), coach a sport, or offer an after-school Peck Enrichment Program class. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to offer programming during Peck’s Summer Program (compensated by stipend), either in-person or virtual.

Teachers are expected to be available for daily academic support (Upper School only), department and grade-level meetings, and other duties as assigned. Faculty members also support our students by attending events such as assemblies, athletic contests, dramatic productions, and alumni events.

Retirement Plan - 403(B)

Employees who meet eligibility criteria participate in mandatory contributions to the plan of 5% of compensation. Peck provides contributions to the plan up to 11.5% of compensation, based on years of service as follows: from start date to six years of service, 6% match; from six years up to 12 years of service, 8.5% match; from 12 years up to 19 years of service, 11% match; and after completing more than nineteen years of service, 11.5%. Participants who do not meet the mandatory contribution eligibility requirements will receive a discretionary matching contribution of 6% provided the employee has contributed 5%.

Standard Aftercare: Children of employees attend standard aftercare at no cost to the employee.

Peck Enrichment Program: Employees may enroll their child(ren) in this program at 40% of the program cost for one class per year after the minimum enrollment has been reached.

Summer Program: Employees of the summer program and employees whose job responsibilities require them to be on campus during the summer program may enroll their child(ren) in classes at $100 per child per camp session. They may also receive free lunch.
