Lower school studio arts at Peck invoke images of a Starry Night, Monet's garden, a cubist robot, and stylized felines. The hallway displays showcase masterpieces that will be treasured by their student artists.
Peck's unique studio arts program incorporates the study of various artists and their work into student projects. The basic elements of design are introduced in kindergarten and are reinforced and expanded upon throughout the grades. The rudimentary language of art and its application to the creative process leads kindergarteners into the worlds of van Gogh and Jackson Pollock. First graders create glazed, ceramic cups and saucers to present as gifts at a Mother's Day tea. Weaving and coiled clay pots by second grade students are crafted in the tradition of Native Americans.
Third graders decorate African textiles and make a joint art/woodworking project. As part of a cross-curricular arts/history unit of study, fourth graders produce their own folk art.
