The program is designed to fulfill our mission.
In grades K, 1, and 2 the children are active in drills and games to develop the fundamental motor skills. Master teachers provide these experiences with great sensitivity to the needs of the individual child.
The values inherent in being a member of a team along with the specific sport skills and strategies begin to be emphasized in the third grade. Third and fourth graders enjoy the intramural leagues and the healthy competition that is fostered in the sports of soccer, field hockey, basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, lacrosse, softball and baseball.
The first opportunity for interscholastic competition arises in the fifth grade. Fifth and sixth grade girls test what they have learned while competing against other schools in field hockey in the fall and lacrosse or softball in spring. Fifth and sixth grade boys do the same in the sport of soccer in the fall and baseball or lacrosse in the spring. A full-scale intramural program in the sports of volleyball, floor hockey, and basketball in the winter provide the basis for choosing among these sports as a seventh grader. Floor hockey is replaced with ice hockey at the seventh grade level.
The seventh and eighth grade program is an interscholastic team sports experience. The girls choose cross country or field hockey in the fall, basketball, ice hockey or volleyball in the winter, and lacrosse or softball in the spring. The boys choose cross country or soccer in the fall, basketball, ice hockey or volleyball in the winter, and lacrosse or softball in the spring. There are over 120 contests with approximately 34 different public, private and parochial schools.
